After the heavy defeat on Matchday 1, a potential Young Boys win is still being viewed very optimistically by bookmakers. Is there really so little faith in FCSB, who won away on the opening matchday of the Europa League group stage?
The 1:0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles delivered not only three points to FCSB but also rewarded backers handsomely. The only goal was scored by David Miculescu in the 13th minute. Although the team sat off with 27% possession, they were clinical in transition: six of eight shots were on target. In the Romanian SuperLiga they are only 11th in the standings at the moment, but at least they finally claimed a first win after an eight‑match winless run.
On the opening matchday, Young Boys lost 1:4 to Panathinaikos. By the 20th minute, three had already gone in against them, and bookmakers still rated them outsiders. A similar picture applies now. In the Swiss Super League over the last three rounds, the team have recorded wins, scoring nine and conceding four, but the level of opposition was weak. Last season, Young Boys reached the Champions League group stage but failed to earn a single point. Away from home, they even lost to near peers such as Shakhtar Donetsk (1:2) and Celtic (0:1).
Two wins on the spin — for the first time in a while — should bolster FCSB’s self-belief, which means the team may look to be more proactive in attack. A straight home win feels a touch risky given current form, so the optimal approach looks to be the draw on the handicap.
